Maui star gazing

There are hundreds of fun things to do on Maui during the day, but once the sun goes down, the options for adventure become a lot more limited.  It is not uncommon for most visitors to the island to wake up when the sun rises, ready to go out and explore the beautiful sites.  This usually drains a lot of energy out of visitors so they are ready for bed earlier than their normal time back home.  But, if your batteries are still charged and you want to enjoy a truly unique Maui experience on your vacation, then we highly recommend a star-gazing cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation.

This special cruise is only offered one night per month, as they are timed with the lunar cycle and when the night sky will be as dark as possible for premier star gazing.  Below I have outlined the dates for upcoming star gazing cruises:

June 6th, 2016

July 2nd, 2016

August 5th, 2016

September 2nd, 2016

The cruise departs the Lahaina harbor at 8pm and takes passengers along the Maui coastline as you gaze up at the constellations above.  Local astronomer Harriet Witt provides excellent commentary throughout the cruise detailing the origins of the constellations and even Hawaiian interpretations of the constellations.  The boat tour lasts two hours and includes up to three free drinks (alcoholic), desserts, and other snacks.

If you find yourself vacationing on Maui during any of these planned upcoming stargazing cruises, we highly recommend booking a seat!  You can find more information at the Pacific Whale Foundation site here.
