Maui Penguins

We would argue that being on Maui in general is the cake. The icing on the cake is to be on Maui during the holiday season (where is it freezing cold most other places in North America). The cherry on top would be to participate in any of the below holiday events that are uniquely offered during this festive time of year.

Outdoor Skating –  For the first time in a very long time, you will be able to ice skate on Maui! The Maui Mall in Kahului will be setting up a skating rink from November 24 through December 17th.  There is not too much information as to how big the rink will be and if it will be real ice or artificial ice, but this is still something very unique for Maui and worth checking out!

As a plan B, you can always check out the free public roller skating nights hosted in Kihei’s Kalama Park.  Nothing like skating under the stars less than 100 yards from the ocean!

Holiday Express:  Sugar Cane Train – The whole family should enjoy this train ride.  Instead of the Polar Express, how about the Tropical Express? Maui’s favorite attraction on tracks, the Sugar Cane Train, will be dressed up with lights and decorations this Holiday Season.  Santa will be on board greeting children and warm cookies and milk will be passed out.  The Holiday Express train will run from November 24 to December 25.

Visit the Penguins– Did you know you can see penguins year round on Maui?  The Maui Hyatt in Ka’anapali has a family of penguins as permanent residents.  It seems that the penguins always get more visitors during the holiday season though.  Be sure to stop by the penguin pond located just outside the lobby on the ground floor. A photo with the penguins could make for an excellent holiday card.

Maui Pops Holiday Concert– The Maui Pops Orchestra will be teaming up with some local Maui musicians to perform some of your favorite local songs combined with a mix of holiday songs.  The concert will be held December 3 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Holiday Lights Drive –  Roll the windows down on your rental car (put that convertible top down if you have one) and cruise around some local neighborhoods looking at Christmas light decorations. If staying at a hotel, I am sure the concierge could recommend some great spots, or if you are staying in one of our rental condos, give us a call and we can point you in the right direction!
