ice cream in Kihei

Because Maui averages 80 degrees year round, every day of the year is perfect for an ice cream cone or shave ice to cap off the night. We will write a blog post later about the best shave ice options, but this post is dedicated to the ice cream lovers.  Our list highlights the best ice cream spots in Kihei, Wailea, and Makena.

Ono Gelato – Located on South Kihei Road next to Maui Pie and Taco Bell, Ono Gelato has some fantastic flavors that are made from local ingredients.  There are even some flavors made from MauiWine!  If you want to combine dessert with a full meal, Ono Gelato recently added on a menu of great sandwiches.

Cold Stone – This national chain can be found in the Piikea Shopping Village (where the Kihei Safeway is located).  Combine great ice cream flavors with toppings such as gummy bears, strawberries, chocolate chips, macadamia nuts, and so many more ingredients.  You can also make an ice cream sandwich with cookies!

Lappert’s Ice Cream – Lappert’s has been Hawaii’s gourmet ice cream producer for decades.  Since the original owners first moved to Kauai and opened the original ice cream shop in 1985, Lappert’s has grown significantly across many of the Hawaiian Islands. The aroma of the waffle cones will have you salivating for a cone! Stop by Lappert’s in the Shops of Wailea after eating at one of the great restaurants located in the mall (like Tommy Bahamas, Ruth Chris, Longhis, and Cheeseburger Island Style).

Maui Gelato – Have you ever heard of a place that serves waffles and also ice cream?  Customers can’t decide which is better at Maui Gelato.  Head over to this establishment in Dolphin Plaza (next to Pizza Hut) in the morning and treat yourself to a gourmet waffle made with a special recipe batter and topped with all kinds of tropical fruit goodness.  Then, return at night for a gelato dessert to complete your day.  Select from tropical and local flavors including some mochi options!

Shaka’s Pizza – What is a pizza place doing serving ice cream you ask?  Well, there is a little ice cream stand that has recently opened up in the outdoor seating area of Shaka’s Pizza.  We have not yet tried it ourselves, but it looks very inviting.  The stand serves ice cream that has been infused with various tropical fruits for a unique taste.   What a tasty idea!  Shaka Pizza is located along South Kihei Road across from Kukui Mall.
